Americans may be enjoying the highest life expectancy the country has ever seen, but certain diseases are still taking far too many lives. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has released its listing of the top causes of death in the United States for 2013, the most recent year for which data was available. As a whole, the list includes some very familiar, very formidable conditions, but many of them are at least somewhat preventable.
