New Book, 'The Married Sex Solution,' Finds Beer Makes You Awesome At Sex —With Other Health Benefits
You may have heard of this theory called “whiskey penis,” where a man who has had too much to drink can’t seem to get an erection when the moment is right. However, as you can tell, the name of that theory has whiskey in it, which relates to alcohol as a whole. Beer lovers, though, should be happy to know that beer actually makes you awesome at sex.
According to The Married Sex Solution: A Realistic Guide to Saving Your Sex Life, Dr. Kat Van Kirk, sexologist and marriage and family therapist, beer provides a man with four different benefits right before he hops in the sack.
The first effect is the delay of premature ejaculation. In line with the theory of whiskey penis, drinking a couple of cold ones overloads a man’s body with phytoestrogens from the alcohol, something that Van Kirk says are proven to delay an orgasm.
For those who enjoy drinking darker beers, the second benefit is a boost in libido and longer, more intense erections. This is due to the high amounts of iron in dark beers, like porters and stouts, which increases the amount of blood circulation to the penis, which is great for an erection.
If you’re noticing a trend here, you’re probably not alone. The third benefit of beer drinking, according to the European Journal of Epidemiology, is that cold brew increases your sexual stamina. Researchers also found 31 percent of moderate beer drinkers had a reduced risk of cardiovascular disease compared to non-drinkers.
The final point Van Kirk makes is that, after a night of drinking, the one problem some people have is nausea or vomiting. Since beer contains loads of probiotics and B vitamins, Van Kirk said beer “can help fortify your overall health and be better on your stomach so you won’t feel sluggish during sex.”
Though Van Kirk points out that stouts and other dark beers are good for you when the time is right, she also mentions a beer that is brewed specifically to help people be better at sex. Called 50 Shades of Green, this beer contains 50 kinds of hops and other ingredients like ginseng, ginkgo biloba and damiana, which, according to the brewer, will increase sexual desire, blood flow, and nerve stimulation to drinkers.
As much as you’d like to reap the benefits and become a master in the bedroom, remember this: Just like everything in life, drink beer in moderation. If you don’t, you’ll probably end up with whiskey penis, not to mention an unhappy partner and a wicked hangover.
