YouTube Video Censorship? Nicole Arbour's Account Gets Suspended For Shaming 'Fat People'
Nicole Arbour may be the first comedian to be censored on YouTube. Two days after she recorded an open letter of sorts to “fat people,” YouTube (as of this writing) has apparently disabled her account. It can still be viewed on Arbour's Facebook page.
The video, titled “Dear Fat People,” claims “fat-shaming is not a thing; fat people made that up.” Arbour is also not convinced obesity is a disease. “Are you going to tell the doctor that they’re being mean, and fat-shaming you when they say you have f-ing heart disease?” she asked.
Arbour continues: "I’m not talking about people who have a little bit of cushion for the pushin’…I’m talking about the 35 percent of North Americans who are obese. That means you are so fat you are affecting your own health.” The video response ranged from, "I'm fat and not offended" to "It's really mean what you said...kill yourself." Arbour actually anticipated the more negative responses, which is why she said she disabled the video comments.
Facebook user Mackenzie Rae Sprauer took a more thoughtful approach, writing that instead of shaming people and grouping overweight people into a category, why doesn’t Arbour just reach out to those with body image issues instead? To which Arbour replied that everyone has body issues (though not adding much else to that) — and that this type of video is "just the beginning of my break sh-t down, let's all keep it real revolution."
Update: Arbour's YouTube channel has been restored, and we've embedded the full video for you to watch below.
