Men all over the world are facing sexual health problems. These vary from person to person, but they are not unique to a certain age, race or any other factor. One in ten men will have gone through some sexual problems at a point in their lives, and this leads to a decline in confidence and self-esteem. Erectile dysfunction (ED), more commonly referred to as impotence, is one of the most common problems men face when it comes to sexual health. This is the inability to maintain or get an erection during sexual intercourse.

Impotence can affect men who are in the 20s to 30s and also older men between the ages of 40 and 50. It is, however, reported that the chances of suffering from it increase with age. There are some factors that can affect a man’s ability to get an erection and these range from little things such as energy levels in the by, stressful situations one find himself facing on a daily basis and also lifestyle choices.

Impotence can be stressful for a couple who is trying to get pregnant because without an erection it is impossible to fertilize a woman’s egg, at least naturally. Another problem that is as common is that of premature ejaculation. This occurs when a man manages to get an erection but quickly ejaculates in less than a minute after penetration. This is usually the first symptom of impotence.

Causes of Impotence

  • Being under a lot of stress, anxiety or psychological tension is a top ranking cause for impotence. Other causes include:
  • Certain medication such as antidepressants.
  • When one suffers from chronic conditions, like diabetes.
  • Low levels of the male hormone, testosterone.
  • Poor lifestyle choices such as drug abuse, smoking, alcohol abuse.

Treatment Options

There are various ways of treating impotence which include surgery, using a pump to promote blood flow to the penis, and also reflexology or acupuncture. This is achieved by applying pressure to certain pressure points in order to increase blood flow.

Acupuncture

Popular in China, acupuncture is an ancient method of healing that focuses on applying finger pressure on certain areas of your body in order to stimulate the body into healing itself naturally. Recently the Western community has adopted and accepted acupuncture as a genuine way of healing.

There are acupuncture points that one can focus on in order to relieve the body from impotence. Five will be discussed here but there are more, and you can only do one or two whenever you have a hand that you are not using at a certain point in time. Some take longer than others so use what will work best for you.
