Another Salmonella Food Recall: Shirakiku Dried Fungus
If you purchased Shirakiku brand imported Dried Fungus (also known as Black Fungus or Kikurage), throw it away. Wismettac Asian Foods, Inc., in Santa Fe Springs, CA, has issued a voluntary recall for the product, which was distributed to restaurants in 31 states, Washington, DC, and British Columbia, Canada.
The recall was issued due to possible salmonella contamination, which could cause serious, life-threatening infections, particularly in those who are most vulnerable: young children, the elderly, and those with impaired immune systems.
The affected product is Black Fungus (Kikurage), 5lb:
