McDonald’s, along with several other fast food restaurants, has been making some strides in the right direction lately. They’ve re-done their menu several times over to provide customers with healthier options, and now they’re rolling out a new feature called “Create Your Taste,” a burger-building option that lets you choose from 31 ingredients to build a burger.

The new “lettuce burger” is part of that, and while it may sound like rabbit food, it’s the fast food chain’s attempt at shaking up its ingredients to replace carbs with leafy greens. The lettuce burger has appeared in Australian chains, and might be available in the U.S. if McDonald’s brings “Create Your Taste” here.

“’Lettuce’ introduce you to our famous #lettuceburgers,” an Australian McDonald’s wrote on its Instagram. “All the same ingredients packed into a couple of large lettuce leaves!”

Other ingredients in the “Create Your Taste” burger-building option include guacamole, crisp red onions, tomatoes, jalapenos, grilled onions, and grilled mushrooms. Lettuce wraps for other meat choices are also available.

The move comes at a time when McDonald’s has seen sales drop due to the American population becoming more health-minded. Healthier chain restaurants, like Panera or Chipotle, are competition to McDonald’s; they have captured people’s attention by offering alternatives to preservatives and high-fat and sodium meals. As a result, McDonald’s has had to readjust its approach to fast food. Whether “lettuce burgers” will catch on in popularity has yet to be seen, but at least it’s a step in the right direction.
