Lee Thompson Young Dies Of Self-Inflicted Gun Shot Wound; 29-Year-Old Was Former Star Of Disney Channel Series 'The Famous Jett Jackson'
Lee Thompson Young, 29-year-old former Disney Channel teen star, was found dead this morning in his Los Angeles apartment.
After he failed to show up on the set of Rizzoli & Isles, a TV production in which he has a continuing role, co-workers called his landlord who subsequently discovered his body, TMZ reported.
The fatal gunshot wound appeared to be self-inflicted, TMZ stated. Sally Madera, a Los Angeles police officer, told the Associated Press that Los Angeles Fire Department was summoned and officially pronounced him dead. Robbery-homicide detectives and the Los Angeles County coroner office were investigating because it is a high-profile death, Madera told the news agency.
“Lee was more than just a brilliant young actor, he was a wonderful and gentle soul who will be truly missed," his manager, Jonathan Baruch, said to HollywoodLife.com.
The actor was born in Columbia, S.C., and began acting at age 10 at the Phillis Wheatley Repertory Theater, according to Wikipedia.
By age 14, he had a role in the Disney Channel’s The Famous Jett Jackson. Later, he attended the University of Southern California, where he majored in cinematic arts and graduated with honors.
He has acted in movies including Akeelah and the Bee, in television shows including FlashForward and Smallville, and on the stage. He also wrote the screenplay for a 2007 short film, Mano.
Janet Tamaro, creator of Rizzoli & Isles, tweeted the following: "We are all without the words to truly express our collective grief and profound sadness at the loss of such a sweet, bright light."
