Poet Raffael Medina Brochero Selling His Testes For $20,000; Is There Really A Market For Testicles?
Just when you think you've heard it all. Colombian poet Raffael Medina Brochero wants to sell his testicles for a whopping $20,000 in order to fund a European tour called "Poetry for Peace in Colombia."
Brochero is an accomplished poet, having published 11 books during his 35 year career. Last year, on his South American tour, the poet found himself broke toward the end. His lack of funds caused him to be stranded in Bolivia. Brochero said that his life was endangered in Bolivia and he never wants to experience that again.
To prevent the same from happening in Europe, he has proposed to sell his testicles to the highest bidder. The price starts at $20,000. He did not make mention of whether the cost of surgery would be covered in the price. However he did not place many limitations on the use of his semen-producing glands. The West Australian reports that Brachero said that his testicles could be transplanted into a sterile person or used to make soup.
The Huffington Post spoke to Scott Carney, author of On the Trail of the World's Organ Brokers, Bone Thieves, Blood Farmers, and Child Traffickers, about Brochero's bizarre offer. According to Carney, testicles aren't any more valuable than any other organ in the underground market. But, like most body parts, the price of it must be negotiable.
"There is no real value for any body part," he said. "It's what gets negotiated, like a used car."
