Tips for natural and quick relief from a sore throat
Generally sore throats are caused by bacteria and viruses and take two to three days for an effective cure. Sore throats can also be caused by allergies, infections and acid reflux. Home remedies are known to provide natural relief.
So here are a few tips to get quick relief from sore throats:
Tip #1: Sore throats caused by enthusiastic abuse like loud cheering, bug invasion at the office or a strep throat. In particular, a strep throat can be identified using instant strep throat test strips that produce results within 30 minutes. But false negatives are common to strep throats.
Tip #2: Analgesics generally prescribed by doctors reduce inflammation in adults and children. Acetaminophen or ibuprofen is given to both adults and children whereas aspirin can be taken only by adults.
Tip #3: Throat lozenges containing menthol, benzocaine, phenol and Zinc can make the throat numb in adults. Children should suck cough drops or hard candy.
Tip #4: Saltwater and mint mouthwash gargling.
Tip #5: Adults can use a throat spray on the back of their throat for the numbing effect.
Tip #6: Remove the buildup on the tongue by brushing it can decrease sore throat.
Tip #7: Rinse the toothbrush in mouthwash between two brushings can kill the sore throat causing germs.
Tip #8: Drink ice cold beverages. Ice cold beverages are created by filling a glass half full with crushed ice, pouring juice over it and letting it sit for 10 minutes. Suck the juice slowly using a straw and allow the juice to stay for a minute or so, on the back of the throat.
Tip #9: Increase moisture content of your environment by using a humidifier or vaporizer or with a steamy shower or bath.
Tip #10: Eat soft and liquid foods like sherbets and chicken broth.
Tip #11: Avoid airborne irritants and cigarette smoke.
