The death toll from the earthquake that hit eastern Turkey on Sunday has risen to more than 400, according to government reports. Another 1,300 are being treated in area hospitals for injuries.

Rescue workers are scouring the area around the city of Van, near the Iranian border where more than 2,250 buildings collapsed.

A 2-week-old baby girl was one of the survivors found in the rubble of an apartment building Tuesday. Television footage showed a rescue worker in an orange jumpsuit squeeze through crushed concrete and metal to free the baby who was taken to a hospital to be treated.

The baby is reported to be in good health.

Turkey has so far rejected all international governmental offers for aid. The earthquake is expected to add serious economic woes to the struggling country facing a recession.
