Cancer is caused by mutations to the DNA within cells, The Mayo Clinic reported. These cellular changes can occur for many different reasons, and scientists are still working to better understand how day-to-day activities, such as eating, affect your risk.
Cancers is a tricky, deadly disease that can occur in people without known risk factors, but in other cases, lifestyle choices like smoking and drinking alcohol can increase your odds of developing the condition. Other factors outside of our control, such as age, and genetics, also play a role.
According to Prevention Pulse, diet is an additional risk factor; the publication lists the following 15 foods, staples in many American diets, that may put people at additional risk for developing cancer.

- Canned tomatoes
- Microwave popcorn
- Hydrogenated oils
